With each moult the shell builds density — a thick shell looks shiny and solid, a thin one dull with see-through patches — and a thick shell is one of the markers of a Collector-grade adult.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eOrange tone builds:\u003c\/strong\u003e The black body never changes. The white bands start pale, sometimes plain white, and the orange tone on them deepens with each moult as the shrimp matures. It builds over time; it is not fixed at birth.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eSpider legs:\u003c\/strong\u003e The body pattern carried onto the legs — black patches with white, the same as the body. The white on the legs takes on the orange tone too, but it is small and subtle. Leg colour follows the shell, so the higher grades show it first, and it fills in with age on every grade.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003ePurple sheen:\u003c\/strong\u003e A metallic purple over the black that shows most on the higher grades and in a tank whose water has aged — an older tank with fewer water changes and very stable water. Unlike a Boa, the pattern is already set at the size we ship; it shifts a little with age, but not by much.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eTiger bands\u003c\/strong\u003e — the number and neatness of the white bands around the body. Entry 1–3 bands, Mid 2–3, High 3–4, Collector 4–5, and the higher the grade the cleaner each band.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eColour\u003c\/strong\u003e — the black base stays as it is. What is graded is the depth of the orange on the white bands, and the metallic purple sheen over the black. Both show more on the higher grades.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eShell thickness\u003c\/strong\u003e — Entry and Mid usually carry a thinner shell; High and Collector a dense, solid one.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eLeg colour\u003c\/strong\u003e — grows in with age on every grade, but High and Collector already show strong spider legs at the size we ship. Entry and Mid are hit and miss, and may never fill the legs completely.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis line is offered in \u003cstrong\u003eEntry, Mid, High and Collector\u003c\/strong\u003e grades. Every shrimp ships from the same true-Hornet stock; the higher grades simply carry more bands, more colour and a thicker shell already.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGrading is done by eye at shipping size, on what the shrimp shows then.
