A pale, almost translucent body walking on vivid blue legs — an odd and very effective combination that reads clearly across a tank despite the shrimp's size.

Caridina caerulea comes from Lake Poso in central Sulawesi.

Along with the Six Banded, this is one of the two Sulawesi species we would suggest first. It is still a Sulawesi shrimp and still wants hard, warm, alkaline water — but it is the more forgiving end of a demanding genus, and a sensible place to learn the tank before spending Cardinal money.

The opposite of a bee shrimp tank. Alkaline instead of acidic, distinctly warmer, and held steady. Inert hardscape only — crushed coral or lava rock, never an active buffering soil.

Let the tank mature. Months, not weeks. Biofilm — the thin living film of algae and bacteria that coats every surface in an established tank — is the food base.

Captive-bred. Every Sulawesi shrimp we sell is captive-bred, never wild-caught. The Malili and Poso lake fauna is under real pressure, and a large share of Sulawesi Caridina carry threatened IUCN listings.
