The Blue Bolt is traditionally a gradient shrimp — blue head fading to a creamy white tail. This line, the Extreme Blue Bolt, has been bred to remove that fade, pushing saturated blue across the entire shell from head to tail for a solid, deep-water look.

About the photo. We ship unsexed juveniles — their blue is often a shade lighter on arrival and packs in, deepening with each moult as they mature. Treat the photo as the target, not the arrival.

Blue Bolts are known for being responsive shrimp.

• Deepens with age: New juveniles typically show a lighter blue that thickens and darkens as they grow and moult.
• Genuinely environment-sensitive: This line is well known for shifting shade with water parameters, substrate maturity (active soil especially), lighting, and even stress levels — expect some movement as they settle into your tank.

We grade by the traits that genuinely vary within a batch — pattern density, colour saturation, how far colour wraps around the shell. Where those differences are visible in the tank from day one, we sort them and price each tier for what it actually is.

Because blue depth on this line moves with age, moult stage and tank conditions, a juvenile that ships a touch pale isn’t a lower-quality shrimp — it just hasn’t finished colouring in yet. Sorting into Mid, High or Extreme tiers on shipping-day colour would be grading our water, not the genetics.

So Extreme Blue Bolts are one grade, one price — full-body blue is what the line does once it’s settled, not a lottery.
