Description
Spider wood is a lightweight, fine-branching driftwood with thin twisting arms. It suits layouts where you want structure and height without visual weight, and its branches give mosses and epiphytes (plants such as Anubias and Java fern that attach to surfaces rather than rooting in soil) somewhere to hold on. Like all wood it releases tannins, natural compounds that tint the water and slightly lower pH.

Usage & Instructions
Rinse well. New spider wood usually floats: soak it for days to weeks until it becomes waterlogged, boil smaller pieces to speed this up, or wedge or tie it to rock or slate until it stays down. Tie or glue plants to the branches with cotton thread or cyanoacrylate gel glue.
Risk & Awareness
Most new wood grows a white, slimy fungal or bacterial bloom in the first weeks. It is harmless, shrimp and snails eat it, and it passes on its own; wipe or siphon it off if it bothers you. Tannins tint the water tea-brown until the wood has leached out, and can slowly stain silicone. Wood dropped from a float can break glass or crush livestock, so secure it.
