Description
A substrate spatula, also called a sand flattener, is a flat stainless-steel blade on a long handle for shaping the aquarium floor. It levels soil and sand, restores slopes that have slumped, and tidies the line where substrate meets the glass. It is also handy for pushing substrate back into place after replanting without stirring up the whole tank, and can be done with the tank full.

Usage & Instructions
Slide the blade in at a low angle and move the substrate in small, slow strokes so fine particles do not cloud the water. For slopes, work from the low side up. For the front glass, run the blade along the seam to clear soil that has crept forward. Rinse in fresh water and dry after use.
Risk & Awareness
Disturbing deep, old substrate can release trapped gas and waste; go gently and consider a water change afterwards. The blade edge can scratch acrylic and nick silicone seams, so keep it off the corners. Fine soil clouds the water if pushed quickly. Dry the tool to stop rust.
